A Chinese doctor who collapsed in his hospital room while waiting for a kidney transplant has died, according to the Chinese government.
According to state-run Xinhua news agency, Xu Xiaozhen died on Thursday in Beijing.
Xu had been awaiting a kidney from an American donor who had recently passed away.
The hospital where Xu was treated on Thursday was inspected by the National Medical Consultative Commission, a body that oversees hospitals.
The commission did not say whether Xu was on life support, nor did it say what type of surgery was being performed.
Xuan Xia, who had previously served as a doctor in the northern province of Shandong, had been admitted to hospital on October 1 after experiencing a heart attack, Xinhua reported.
The doctors company has not responded to a request for comment.
